I received an ARC from the publisher. This has been a pleasant challenge for me to review. I've finally decided to take a step back and look at this in a different category and go from there. This is a short story. I am not familiar with short stories. I had to stop myself from looking at this as a full length novel. Judging it as so. And when did that I saw the beauty in it. I consider myself a heavy reader, averaging around 7 books a month. And I realized something when I sat down with this---I do a lot of skipping. You know, skimming. Over all those mundane details in search of plot and dialogue. So imagine my surprise when I naturally started doing that with this lovely little gem & found I didn't need to! I noticed my Kindle said I had 5 minutes left in the book. What? No! Actually, yes. Yes indeed. That's quite pleasant. Let's get straight to it then! Ha! Look! There's the plot right there! Oooh and look, a lovely twist here! And just when I started falling in love with the characters, the overall tone and the story itself, it ended. All whilst waiting at the pediatrician's office for my children's appointment. How absolutely brilliant. So that's what short stories are? Lovely. Lovely for a busy mum. Lovely for a heavy reader who's hands are always filled with a book at each idle opportunity. I read this twice in the same week. I liked it that much. Ashley Maker is new to me as an author and I greatly enjoyed her writing style (I have already added her other work to my tbr) and this story grabbed and held my attention immediately. Although this could make an exceptional full length novel (and I had to shut my writer's brain off there) it is perfect without being expanded upon. And I am greatly looking forward to the continuation of this little series!

I'll admit, it has been a long while since I've read a short story as good as this one. The writing flowed beautifully, and it felt perfectly paced. By the end, I'm now anxious to find out what happens next! I would recommend everyone check this short story out to enjoy for themselves if they want something quick and also amazing to read.

This short story has a very intriguing 0lot and is very fast paced. Maker was a way to get you into this world in just a few words and root for the characters without even knowing them completely. I loved Adele and how she fighted to change her situation. I can't wait to see more of Stanford and know why all that happened to him.But above all I wish to see how this story will end for Wilmont, a villian that made me hate him in just seconds and even when I caught a glimpse of why and what is in his mind I want to know more .I highly recommend this short story. My only wish is to know more.
