Never thought I'd ever see Yuko's face light up after hearing Watanuki's proposal in granting her whichever wish she had desired. the ending was truly touching. On to the next book now! :)

Wow, I'm simply smitten. Who/what is Watanuki? Is he dying? Is he a ghost or a dream that he doesn't remember the names of his parents or ever tasting anything? Or is he real and everybody else is just a dream? And what's his connection with Shaolan?I'm so intrigued! I wonder if CLAMP planned that from the very beginning. I just loved the way that Domeki cared for Watanuki in this volume. This is a real masterpiece!

Today's post is on XXXHolic volume 12 by CLAMP. It is the twelfth in the series, so you need to have read the first eleven to understand the story. It is 178 pages long and is published by DEL REY. The cover has Yuko on it looking very pretty and wrapping around to Watanuki on the back. The intended reader is someone who likes Japanese mythology, ghost stories, and very pretty pictures. The story is told from Watanuki's perspective. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Lately Kimihiro Watanuki's dreams have been pleasant escapes that have given him the chance to talk to his new friend Haruki Domeki. But now he's falling asleep a lot- and starting to think that his entire life with the witch Yuko might be taking place in some kind of dreamworld. Then one night his dream is visited by a pretty princess named Sakura...Review- The story is starting to get really sad. Watanuki is realizing that lots of things in his life do not add up. He cannot remember things like his parents names or what grade he is in. He is scared but he is letting that change him. He is determined to stay kind. This one also has some interesting one shots like the hole that just appears, takes some of Watanuki's cooking, then returns with flowers as a thank you. I do not know what Yuko is doing but she is so sad about something. The plot is really moving now and I think that it is going to make me cry. Not much left for this story.I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this book with my own money.

Sigh.... this volume did have a couple of chapters that seemed random and useless in it... please CLAMP, I don't want xxxHolic to go all Ranma on me!Besides that, the ending was really sweet and also a bit heartbreaking. I'm also not sure why people are more concerned about Watanuki constantly falling asleep and dreaming. As I reader, I obviously think he's doing this because he needs to know something... but the other characters aren't like "Gee... you've been falling asleep standing up a lot lately... what's wrong with you?" They're always like "Have you been getting enough sleep?" I just feel they should be a bit more concerned, especially because they get concerned about everything else.Well, that's all I have to say about this volume. On to the next!

The volumes are becoming progressively darker and a melancholy, yet hopeful, undercurrent of emotions permeate the last few volumes. At this point Tsubasa and Xxxholic are overlapping even more than in past volumes. (I can't imagine reading Xxxholic and not picking up Tsubasa.) Watanuki is asking some heavy questions and I'm so worried for him. I don't want him to vanish. Please visit my blog for a full series review: http://perksofbeinganotakuwallflower.....

Despite being heavy on the Tsubasa material, probably the best volume of the series yet. Especially for Watanuki fans - and I LOVE WATANUKI SO MUCH OKAY. Seeing him struggle with reality itself makes me wibble for his sanity ;___; But seriously, the cross between supernatural fantasy and psychological drama as well as that conversation between Yuuko and Watanuki makes this volume a sure fire winner all the way.

Watanuki's preoccupation with dreams takes a sinister turn as he becomes unable to stop falling asleep at random moments. It seems that the lines between dreams and reality are blurring as the conclusion to the story nears and Watanuki begins to question his own reality. Is his life with Yuko the dream or the reality? And are his lost memories a sign that his life is false, or is this an effect from the influence of another magician?

I love the developments with Kohane. The intertwining of the Sakura storyline makes me want to give Tsubasa another try. I don't want it all to be a dream. And I love the way that Watanuki asks Yuko to tell him one of her wishes. The changes in Watanuki's character over the series thus far and so fascinating to watch.

Watanuki is falling more often and deeper into dream state in this volume, which is having quite the effect on his waking life. Through dream state, he is in contact with a character from the other series that runs aside this one, Tsubasa, as well as others. Much of what happens in this book is interesting and feels like it's leading to something bigger. The ending of this volume is rather sweet.

This volume is gorgeous, spooky, scary, moving, and sad. Dreams and reality intermingle; Watanuki worries he's not real; Kohane is scorned as a false seer; Watanuki and Sakura meet in dreams; Yûko wants to grant Watanuki's wish, and Watanuki wants to grant hers.Around here is where I started to be very frightened for Yûko, I think.

This series just keeps getting better--marvelous increasingly complext plot; character development (Watanuki has become a kinder, more thoughtful and thought-filled person, even just a tad bit less contentious with Doumeki!); and excellent (if unrealistically proportioned), often intricate art.Now I'm suffering Xxxholic withdrawal. So I'm going to try the anime.

There were some really interesting things brought up in this volume--Watanuki keeps drifting in and out of dreams, and it brings up the idea that maybe he is just a dream. Very good, wish that there were more of these available. That's the problem with reading a manga series that is still being published in Japan, though.

I understand building suspense but at some point feeling lost and confused for Watanuki for an entire Volume just becomes frustrating. I like how much he is valuing his friendships lately and the gifts that he has been giving people who are close to him is very sweet but all of this dreaming plot twist needs to reach the climax. I really like how much Watanuki is looking out for Kohane-chan.

This is my favorite one in the series. I love the scene betwen Watanuki and Yuko-san. I love the questions about what is a dream and what is real. I love how Watanuki is changing and accepts hitsuzen now.

I thought this volume's play with dreams and changing one's future were really beautiful. No wish granting this time, but the twist there was beautiful too.

This volume takes a turn for the weird. Watanuki is constantly falling asleep in strange places, and it's taking a turn towards the dangerous.
