4.25 RATING- Sometimes a reading funk will leave me digging through my kindle to see what will grab my interest. That's what lead me to reading Fall Out by Zoe York. (I recently picked up as a freebie but the book is also featured in the SEALs of Summer anthology I had). I wasn't sure what to expect and I didn't have a lot of expectations before I started this one, but I really enjoyed it. There's not a lot to work with but it was short and sexy. I liked both characters. They had cute chemistry from almost the get go. This is the first book I've read by Zoe York and her writing style works for me. Nothing fancy, but just very "readable". I'm excited to read more of the series and hopefully some of the characters that make an appearance in Fall Out will be featured at some point. I was excited to see the second book, Fall Hard, is available in the SEALs of Winter: A Military Romance Superbundle anthology. I picked it up today for $0.99 and have already started.I'd recommend for fans that like romances that feature a military hero and readers that don't mind a novella length story. It looks like I have several books by Zoe York on my kindle that were downloaded as freebies at one time or another. I'll definitely be checking those out soon.

I at least read about four chapters and found nothing to keep me interested in reading anymore. I had to quit. There was nothing wrong with writing style, just that it was boring.

I was lucky enough to catch this novella for free on Amazon and I wasted no time reading it... It's the first in a series focused on current and former USA Navy Seals. The hero of “Fall Out” is Drew Castle, a Navy Seal who seems to be getting on auto-pilot. He lives his life like a robot, not getting any satisfaction from the job he's always loved, nor from the one night stands he collects... The explanation probably resides on the fact that he lost on the job his colleague and best friend, Kevin Martin, and he still hears his voice in his head...But his routine is about to be disturbed, when Kevin's little sister, Annie, shows up at his door. They haven't seen each other in a year, since Kevin's funeral, and at that time the sorrow they both felt didn't allow them to conveniently notice each other. But now there is no noticing that Kevin's little sister grew up and is no longer the kid he knew. And as for Annie, she always noticed his brother's friend...Annie received a strange voice mail on her cell phone, supposedly from Kevin, telling her he's alive and needs her help. Annie immediately suspects it's a set up and turns to her brother's best friend to help her find out who's behind the message and if it's just a tasteless prank or something much more dangerous. The thing is, Kevin had a secret that Annie involuntarily discovered and she suspects the message may be related to it.Drew goes into protective mode right away, and he turns to a friend and former Seal to find out what is going on. And, at the same time, fights the growing attraction he feels for Annie (and it doesn't help that he keeps hearing Kevin's voice in his head telling him to stay away from his sister). The attraction is mutual, and Annie sees no problem in giving in to it, with no compromises nor complications. However, these things always have a way to get complicated, don't they...I really liked this novela. It's an interesting beginning to a promising series. Not everything gets solved and we don't get to know who's behind the message, but I'm assuming that story arc will be developed in the next books. But Drew and Annie's story is resolved and I was pleased with their happy ending. I'm going to continue to read the series and I'm hoping to read the next one very soon.

Zoe York is my "recovery" author. When I'm feeling sad or having an "ugly cry" for another book, I love going to her for the hot and sweet love story that gives me an HEA and is hot, hot, hot. We all want Zoe York characters to be our friends and lovers. These stories follow Navy Seals at a crossroads in their careers. Navy Seal relationships are difficult at best. They are typically men who face the daunting prospect of rarely being home, of putting themselves in danger most of us will never be able to even imagine, and have as many psychological barriers to a successful personal relationship as physical. These men all start out from a place of "no commitments" which makes them essentially thought of as players, bad boys. I always think every bad boy (or most) really is just looking for enough motivation to reform. Each couple in the Seals Undone series has cameos in the other stories, but these really are standalone. I am partial to reading them in order. As the 2 most recent stories released, I did a re-read from book 1.Drew and Annie's story from Fall Out, Book 1 brings a grieving sister and a grieving comrade of a battle casualty together to solve a mystery and threat. An interesting twist is that the fallen brother is the "voice inside" Drew's head. This makes it difficult when Drew begins to fall for Annie. A bit of a "cock blocker" if you will. These stories are totally worthy of being on your TBR list. I'd suggest a long weekend, a chaise lounge, an adult beverage of choice and 7 hot men.

Drew had a WTF? moment when Kevin, his best friend and team member's baby sister showed up on his doorstep one night in a panic. Someone was trying to scare her and she had no idea why. The only person she felt safe going to was Drew. Her brother had always told her that if anything happened to him, she could trust him. Drew didn't know who to trust or to go to. He thought he could go to his commanding officer, but things change when he realizes that they are being followed and possibly by the government. Drew decides to contact people that he knows work off the grid and see what information can be found.Drew also has to get them to a safe location and these same people will help with that.Drew and Annie have to be honest about their feelings for one another and admit that their age difference they have definitely was an issue when she was younger doesn't matter any longer. Annie has to admit that she isn't projecting all of her love for her brother onto Drew, but sees him as his own person who she is beginning to care deeply for.In the end secrets that come out about Kevin's life and all that he lost makes Drew realize that he wants more. He is willing to admit that he wants things part of his life that he never considered before.I'm looking forward to reading more stories in this series.I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

This is more of a novella really. Drew Castle is in his 30's and a Navy Seal but he lives the lifestyle of a man in his early twenties - video games, booty call, no commitment, etc. He lives this life because of his rough childhood and lack of love. Recently, his best friend, Kevin, was killed and he's still having trouble dealing with his loss. Then, Annie Martin, Kevin's younger sister knocks on his door saying Kevin left a message on her cell phone that day, but she knows it's not him. So Drew sets everything aside to help the only "family" he has left, Annie, to figure out what is going on and why someone is pretending to be Kevin. Only he doesn't have familial feelings for Annie. She's too important to him to become a fling, but he's too attached to leave her alone. This was a pretty good story. I initially disliked Drew because of his immature lifestyle, but found myself "grring" at Annie and her potshots at it later in the book. So I guess the author was successful in making me like him in spite of it. I'm still not sure I fully understand what actually happened with the voice message and who was behind it all, but it was wrapped up satisfactorily. I really liked the epilogue though. This is a good story and I'll probably take up this series.

This novella packs a little action, a little romance and a lot of heat into the story of Annie and Drew. Annie is Drew's recently deceased best friend's sister, and when she comes to him in trouble, he is there for her to lean on. Only he discovers that his feelings are more than brotherly towards her. Can he learn to open his heart and trust Annie to take care of it?This was a fun and fast paced novella. I really enjoyed both characters - Annie is a tough girl most of the time but turns to Drew when she has no other options. She is used to going it alone, but feels that loneliness deeply and knowing she can count on Drew and trust him with her life is the first time she's felt any security in a long time. Drew is the typical SEAL - handsome, confident, friendly and oh, so attracted to Annie despite his misgivings. He doesn't believe he can offer her a future, but as they work together to solve a mystery he finds that her trust in him opens up something in his heart that he never expected. The sexual tension between them is a slow build up to their love scenes which as always are well written, emotional and steamy. Overall I found this story to be an entertaining and fun read, with just the right amount of suspense, action, tension, sex and romance. 4 stars!

Not good..I thought there would be some drama to it but other than Drew and Annie going on the lam then having it turn out that it was for nothing was very disappointing. Over all it was kinda' boring. I can't see myself read any other books by this author because of her wording. I hate when an author refers to a woman's private parts as a pu$$y and then the hero asks if she ever took it in the rear-end. That was just about it for me but I did want to see if anything good happened so I carried on and nothing happened. I know a lot of you like that kind of talk and sex but I don't happen to, sorry. I'm glad it was only 155 pages. Sweetheart, honey, love, dear, dearest, darling, etc, etc. The author could have used a number of endearments but instead she uses ONE! She used "sugar" 35 times. Really? I can appreciate him wanting to call her some sweet word but I don't understand an author picking one word and no other. She had Rik and Calli, Mats, Trent and Jackson in this book but the next book is about completely different people. I'm glad I'm not reading any more by this author. Anyway, that's my opinion of this book.

This is Navy SEAL, Drew Castle's story. His best friend, Kevin, was killed in action. Kevin always told his sister Annie, that she could always trust Drew. When she shows up on his doorstep asking for help, he drops everything to help her. Is constantly hearing Kevin's voice in his head enough to make him keep his hands off the beauty in her that he never recognized before?I love the SEALs Undone series! Drew seemed like he was just existing before Annie barged in on his life and brought adventure with her. I love how she freaks out on the inside but she's cool as a cucumber on the outside. That is until she faints from anxiety at one point in the story. He fights his attraction and does really well with it until the shower scene. Talk about steamy! I would have loved for the story to be a little longer including more background information on Drew and Kevin but it was still a great read. I can't wait to read the next book in this series, Fall Hard.I was not compensated for my review.I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

Bit too much going on...then nothing. The first half of this story was really intense and I felt that it was a bit too over the top with the drama and then the plot just fizzled and went completely dead.I did not feel anything but a 'hook up' vibe from both the main characters and once they did spend the night together, they were both talking about lifetime commitments and families. Just too much too soon and had my eyes rolling more than once. There were numerous errors where I had to stop and re-read to get the meaning of what the author was trying to say. I also felt like the author was trying to write smut but it was just a little too wholesome. Swearing one minute and then referring to birthday suits and feeding souls in the one paragraph just doesn't work in my opinion. Not sure if this author is my style. I may try some more of her work down the track.

This is a great introduction to the "SEALs" undone. Drew is your typically alpha male at the beginning of this story - brooding, loner, quick times with fast women and no commitments. Annie strikes me as "put together" when we first meet her, as Drew notices how she's dressed, but we are quick to notice that she is anything but. I did feel that the need for drama felt a bit contrived in order to push Drew and Annie together, but from there, I liked the progression of their relationship. She continues to call it like it is with him, and he gets offended when the reality is that I think this is a case of "the truth hurts". Drew uses these little barbs from Annie, and his growing attraction to her, to question almost everything about his relationship with women. And in the end we find that usually all a man needs is the love of a good woman and everything else will fall into place!

I picked up Fall Out by Zoe York last week, while it was free on Amazon. This was my first Zoe York book and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a novella, at only 155 pages, and can be read in about an hour or so. Quick enough to get lost inside the story, read some steamy scenes and get a resolution. There is a lot of action in this little story. Drew is a Navy SEAL, who was best friends with Annie’s brother, Kevin. When Annie gets scared she runs to Drew and life gets a little complicated from there. Drew tries to deny his attraction to Annie, but we all know that won’t last long. ;) Drew – hot, sexy, SEAL and quiet Annie have so much chemistry that it is easy to fall for this couple.Fall Out is a solid story and I’m looking forward to picking up the second book in the series. If you like quick and steamy, this is one book you should pick up.

3.75 Stars Drew is a Navy Seal who has recently lost his best friend Kevin. He lives day to day never getting close to anyone knowing he'll be leaving soon on another tour. When Kevin's sister Annie shows up because of a fraudulent voice message she's received from her deceased brother, Drew feels an immediate draw to Annie and an urge to protect her. Both Drew and Annie have lost their parents and have no other family. It was obvious they shared a strong attraction for each other, yet they both continued to fight it. There was a lot of back and forth and not really much story happening. There is a partial conclusion regarding the message Annie received, but a couple of questions still remain. This story does have a happy ending and is a quick read.

Honestly, you should buy this novella for the cover alone ;) lolBut seriously, the story was quite cute and fun to read. It had a bit of mystery and adventure and I'm not afraid to admit that part of the ending gave me a few tears...The chemistry between Drew and Annie jumped off the pages. There was no denying it. I really enjoyed Kevin's voice inside Drew's head ... you'll understand once you read this really GREAT story!I would have preferred the mystery to be a tad bit more dramatic in conclusion, especially since it started with quite an adrenaline charge. But it was still kind of 'cute' LOL.Bottom line is if you like quick and sexy reads, this is definitely for you!

This is a cute fast paced book . It's the story of Drew and Annie. Drew is a Navy Seal that was best friends with Annie's brother , her brother died in the line of duty and had always told her that if she ever had trouble, go to Drew. Drew has been listless since his buddies death. So when he gets a knock on the door one night , he is expecting his booty call and finds Annie instead, she is very upset! Even though they have known each other for years, this time is different, is it the danger? Or is it true feelings? I really liked this book! It had action, mystery and love. Oh and hot military guys! I loved how the characters connected, there history and there chemistry!

Coming in at 155 pages, this book had the length I needed, but the characters were just mediocre for my taste. The writing was well done, but the plot had too many ups and downs for my liking. The romance just didn’t seem to click for me either.

The mark of a Martin Kevin was Crew's best friend in the Navy Seals. Kevin was Annie's brother , but Kevin was now dead, killed in action.Annie receives a voice messages from Kevin, but she knows it isn't Kevin. There is only one thing she can think to do, she needs to go & see his best friend Drew .Drew's life was the military. He didn't do commitment with any woman. So when a knock on the door came he thought it was his hook-up for the night. It wasn't , it was his best friends sister , Annie. He had to help her . He was worried that message could lead to trouble for her. Especially after hearing about Kevin's secret. He couldn't & wouldn't let anything happen to her .He tried to keep her at arms length , but the physical chemistry between them was a battle they could not fight.Good read

I think our couple in this story needs a little help. They are doing well in the action department until all of a sudden, it stops. They seem to resolve issues quickly, who made the mystery phone call, why it was made. But then the story ends. I felt kinda like I got sucker punched. With a little more time the author could have made this into a really good suspense romance, but I think she got busy with something else and the ending was an afterthought ... just make it short and end it...Annie gets mystery phone call, goes to brother's military friend. This brings out some action, being followed by a car, losing them, flying private plane to off shore island, friends using technology to trace phone call, resolve issue. Couple gets it on and story over. Huh? Like I said, it could have been a good suspense if it were a longer whole story...

Good read, part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. HEA. When Annie gets a phone call that is suppose to be from her brother who is dead, she goes to see his best friend, Drew for protection and help. Drew with help from friends of his, protect her and figure out who is behind the phone call.

I loved this story. It kept me engaged from beginning to end. The characters were great. I liked how cheeky Annie could get at times and her strength. Drew's transformation was fun to watch and it made for such a sweet HEA ending. I enjoyed the inclusion of Rik and his team. I hope to see all of these characters in future books in the series.

OK quick novella. Perfectly competent writing but I probably won't remember this by tomorrow. The constraints of the novella format (lack of plot and character development) were evident for me. I personally couldn't get into this one.
