The duty had fallen to Cor to take his nephew Daron to the top of the Pinnacle, for no one else dared. The hard part was making a game out of it so that the boy would not suspect. Some lies were necessary for the greater good, after all. Weren't they?...

It's difficult to create a good story in the short form. You have to build suspense, define characters, and have a complete resolution with a very small word count. Gaines Post did it all in this short story. In full disclosure, Gaines sent this to me (I didn't stumble upon it myself), but my opinions on the strength of the story are my own. I'm a picky reader, and most works sent to me like this are "not ready for primetime." I usually give the authors some advice on how to fix it and go along my way. I won't go into the details of this short, as it's easy to ruin it but it has a nice "Twilight Zone" vibe and is well written and reads very smoothly. Give it a try, it's a short read that is well worth the time.
I really liked this story even though the end was a bit predictable.
I read this some time ago, I thought I reviewed it, but I didn't!This is a short story about a boy who yearns to reach beyond the boundaries of his small village. He does so, but at his, and everyone else's, peril.I enjoyed the way the author described the hike the boy and his uncle take, and the reveal at the end is interesting, but not unexpected. Still, a good short read.
Would make a good prequel...Interesting read with a twist at the end... very short but it hints at a bigger world. I would like to see more but even if there isn't a larger story in the work, it is a good short story.
Short storyWhat a great short story. Is starts with what you think is just an uncle taking his nephew for a trip up a hill, but turns into so much more. This would be great as a novel explaining the group's beliefs.
