Here are a few facts about myself:1. I have read thousands of books in my lifetime.2. I sometimes find it difficult to form an emotional attachment to characters in a book.3. I can count on ONE HAND the amount of times that a book has brought me to tears.4. MJ Carnal has delivered an emotion packed, sobbing, can't catch my breath through my tears, emotional roller coaster of a book.I seriously don't know what to write in this review that would adequately express exactly how I felt as I read this book. I am still in shock as to my reaction when reading 'Taming the Playboy'. I absolutely loved the characters of Layla and Ryan when they were introduced in the first book 'Taming the Bachelor'. I thought that they had chemistry back then, but nothing compared me for what I was going to discover in this awesome read!I never imagined the emotional ups and downs that I was going to experience as I started this book. I don't want to divulge any of the storyline, but suffice it to say, I started the book at 3 am and was hysterically crying until the very end. I read it from front to back in one sitting. After I finished, I took a deep breath, wiped the tears from my face, hugged my Kindle to my chest, and secretly hoped for more of the story! What a journey! Ok MJ, bring it on......I am ready for some more!!! - Kelly-----An amazingly well written and emotionally gripping story. I honestly could not put this book down. I read it in one sitting and was crying through the whole last half of the book (and you can ask any of my friends, I am not a crier). I loved, loved, loved Ryan and Layla. He was definitely the playboy in the first book "Taming the Bachelor", however, when he fell for Layla, he fell hard. The two of them together was hot! He became just the perfect guy until tragedy struck for the group, as well as, for Ryan individually. Have a box of tissues handy with this book, and be prepared for the journey of a lifetime with Ryan and Layla and the rest of their friends. I know I'm not giving a lot of details, but I don't want to chance spoiling it for anyone. Suffice it to say, I cannot express how highly I would recommend this book. -Tynna

Okay, this story was executed a bit better than the first. The characters and dialogue are entertaining and not quite as corny. There were still massive amounts of editing errors in this book, but was entertained enough to try not to let them bother me too much. Some of the biggest issues I have with this series is that situations are so overly dramatic, people fall in love so quickly that it seems contrived rather than organic, and some characters use terms of endearment that are way too intimate for platonic friends or familial relations. I also really feel like the author needs to learn how to resolve issues a bit better, or figure out how to leave them dangling a bit better if the plan is to resolve an issue in a future installment. My main example is the situation with Aria. It could have been over after Ryan kicks her out, but then the author added Ryan's thoughts to the mix where he wants to try to fix things with her. So, we are left wondering what, if anything, will happen with her, to never have her mentioned again. She just disappears from the story and her entrance and exits from the story are choppy. I mean, she was such an important person in Ryan's life!I did feel emotions and found myself crying, so this book was better than the first. I may actually continue with this series as these characters have found their way into my literary heart and look forward to more! I hope the author keeps improving her writing and gets a better editor!P.S. A small note/plea/request to the author...PLEASE, PLEASE knock off all the finger banging in the sex scenes! Both books have an abnormal amount of it, and I really get very unsexy and crude pictures from what you describe. Doesn't sound like anyone would find that pleasurable, seems like guys in your books roughly ram their fingers in their women and it's supposed to be appealing!

For me Ryan and Layla’s story way surpassed the first book, I fell for Ryan big time! (and not just because he was a tattooed hottie)Ryan’s back story was so sad and so well written that I was totally living in the book, I laughed with them , shouted at them and even cried with them and I cried a lot which I don’t do often over books! Loved how Ryan and Layla tried so hard to just keep it a casual thing yet they were both desperate for each other and falling quickly into love. I really warmed to Layla in this book she comes across much better in taming the playboy than the first book where I actually wanted to slap her! But I grew to really like her character was nice to have a a female main character that wasn’t a soppy thing, Layla was fiery and feisty and covered in tattoos and completely adored Ryan. I Don’t want to give to much away but the whole friends bond and their support for each other was awesome, Ryan is a really easy character to fall for and when he made his discussion to stop trying, well I was a broken mess! The book had lots going on but was easy to keep up with all the events. Liked how Mark and Sophie’s story carries on in this book hoping Ryan and Layla’s will also continue in the next book, Caleb’s book, hoping Kevin will still be playing a part too. These books are a must read. ~Rachel~*** This book was given free for an honest review***

3 starsIt took me awhile to finish this novel, it started quite well but then I got bored with it. I think book 1 is better than this. I do like the story but...I don't know, for some reason, it kind of just made me lose interest. I finished it just for the sake of finishing it, and I kinda did a fast-read. I'm gonna read the 3rd book and hopefully it's much better than this one.

This has to be over 4 stars for me. I spent the last 25% with tears rolling down my cheeks and it actually started in a light and breezy way. I have not read the other books in the series, (they are standalones, although interconnected characters)but they seem to be about a sexy band of friends all finding their special girls. I have read these types of stories before and often the brothers are bikers or Marines etc. In this case Ryan ia a fitness instructor. Queue hot body descriptions, yummy. This one was about Ryan, the groups playboy, but there is more to him than that ,he has dealt with some issues since a kid. Its given him a fun outlook on life, he is not dark and brooding he is out to make the most of life.Layla the love interest is great, she is independent not clingy and she is sexy and knows it, not a gorgeous beauty who thinks she is plain, which I find so annoying (unless there is a very very good reason for it). The banter and relationships described are great. Its a fun read involving this whole group of sexy men and their women. The only issue I personally have is they are all very hands on, the girls crawling into all the guys laps for cuddles, even the cute Doc they have only just met gets pretty close to being in on the act fairly quickly. (think she is a future story). They're in their late 20's so it seems a little too much for me. Guess there must be people out there who do that though. I have to say, no wonder people are always jumping to the wrong conclusion. However there is no getting away from the fact this group of lovely people are like family to each other and I enjoyed that. I even like Aria despite all that happens and hope she gets a proper redemption at some point in another book. Felt kind of sorry for her actually, despite her mistakes. So as I said what elevated it for me was the end chapters of the book, there were some beautiful lines and I just could not stop those tears. Actually earlier than that when the incident with Marco occurred and what Ryan said to him. Beautiful. So I got drawn into this story in an unexpected way. I have just read another story that dealt with anguished emotions which didn't draw the tears from me that this book did, so thanks M J Carnal you did a good job.

Contemporary romance set in crazy Los Angeles with a personal trainer and gym owner sexy playboy, Ryan West who finds love for the first time with his best friend's fiance's sister, Layla Barringer. Usually I get mad and stop reading a book when there is this much miscommunication between the H/h, but I was more forgiving because Layla and Ryan are in love for the first time and are just learning about being in a relationship which means talking to each other before jumping to conclusions. It does not help things that there is a crazy girl in Ryan's life who donated her bone marrow so he could survive cancer when he has young, but now considers him owned by her. The craziest thing is that she ends up raping Ryan and he just lets is go by only throwing her out of his house (and I assume his life because we don't ever hear for her again although Ryan calls her 'his sister' for the first half of the book!)So I didn't get into the story all that much because I didn't tear up or anything remotely close when the male characters are in life or death situations. Lots of sexy time and jealous tirades which just made me tired and ready to go back to some history of disease books or knitting patterns collections for a while....374 pages but it felt more like 250ish normal pages2 stars

OMG I loved this book!!!! I fell in love with Mark in the first book and I love Ryan even more. I love how Ryan and Layla just felt right. I know that there is always a monkey wrench that has to be thrown into a relationship, but I was heartbroken when Ari answered the phone. Caleb, Caleb, Caleb not again dude!!!! Why is it you seem to be at the center of all the trouble??? I cried (yes, buckets of tears), I laughed, I was so frustrated I wanted to slap someone, I prayed, and I was amazed at how M.J. Carnal handled some very real issues. I am so looking forward to Caleb's story...wonder who will be at the center of his troubles...it seems only fair!!! This book will remain in my top 10 for quite some time.

OMG this one, omg is all I can really say. It had me in tears. I haven't cried over a book in forever. Oh my word Ryan, one word, YUMMY. I think I would be a skinny b*&$% if he was my trainer. I would make it to the gym every damn day to see him and have him position me lol. This was a sweet story and I saw it coming from the first book. I'm glad he got his happy ending, as much of a playboy as he is he just needed the right woman to come along. I wanted to kill Arie, really, she had some balls on her. I would have yanked her up by her hair. lol

Taming the Playboy had a little bit of everything - lots of steam, interesting characters, and loads of twists and turns. It was the first book I read by MJ Carnal and it can be read as a standalone, although I would recommend reading the first book in the Dickerman/Moretti Novels first just so you have the background of the different characters. There was so much action packed into the book and I found it difficult to put it down as I was reading because I always wanted to know what would happen next!

I honestly loved this book. I did feel it felt a bit rushed with each scene, but still a good story. These books are hard for me to read this month because I lost my grandmother to cancer in August last year. It's been hard feeling like I am reliving the pain. I guess that's why I am attached to these books. It gives me a peace of mind knowing that maybe sometimes happy endings can happen even if it was not for my family.

LOVED this book! Quite honestly I really ended up so disappointed with the first book that I was hesitant to read this one. I decided to give the book and the author another try and BOY I am so glad I did! What a terrific story and for me personally the author and "Layla" were redeemed in my eyes, LOL! 5 stars for sure

'Taming The Playboy' is not your typical bad boy, confirmed bachelor, who meets his match story. Oh no this book takes on an emotional rollercoaster that is rarely seen. This is the second in the Moretti Series about a group of male friends who swear that they remain single and enjoy the beneftis of being single. While the first book in the series was and set the scene perfectly for what was to follow, it didn't blow my socks off like 'Taming The Playboy' did. That being said it is well worth a read to see the very shy Sophie grow in confidence under the attention and love of Mark. You did need to read 'Taming the Bachelor' to understand what is to follow. This is Ryan's story and his journey as he falls and falls hard for Layla (Sophie's sister). We follow him through the stages of denial, jealousy and uncertainty until he finally admits how he feels. Now one thing is clear is the women who fall in love with the Moretti clan have trust issues, which are not helped by the boys' pasts. These trust issues have almost tragic consequences for one of the characters. Ryan has battled and won against a form of cancer twice in his life and his life was saved by a donor. Let's just say that she feels more for Ryan than he does for her and she stoops to some unbelievably low stuff to drive a wedge between Ryan and Layla. Her attempts are sickening. Personal tragedy strikes again for Ryan and leaves Ryan and Layla with some difficult decisions to make and the chance that their life together may be cut unbelievably short. What makes this book so awesome is the family like feel between the characters, even though they are not blood relations. They will be there for each other through thick and thin, the good times and the bad. And once you are in the family, you are brought under their wing. You feel for the characters as they run through a raft of emotions and you have a vested interest in their happiness. Several times in this book I cried and I cried ugly tears as circumstances impacted on their lives; as they battled to come to terms with the crap life had thrown at them. I have found most books concentrate on the tragic lives and the issues of the female lead, but this one is different. Yes, the female lead has issues but they are not the focal point of the story. It the male lead's story that is the focal point and this gives us a new perspective on those bad boy, alpha male, who seem to go through life without much of a care in the world. There are exceptions to this and this is certainly one of them. This book hit me and hit me hard because the battle was so personal and not caused by outside influences. There was no stopping it. Ugly tears running down my face again as I write this. This was incredibly poignant and moving story. It is one of those rare books that affects both your head and your heart long after you have finished it. The whole series so far is brilliant but this one stood for out for me, heads and shoulders above the rest.

WOW I don't even know where to start without giving the whole book away. So I guess the only place to start is with Ryan. He is for sure a playboy! He was crazy and lived life to the max! We meet both Layla and Ryan in book one and I knew there was chemistry but WOW was I thrown for a loop with this one. I was like you could feel the sexual tension radiating out of the pages (on kindle lol) Once we finally got a feel for them and we were so excited everything was going to work out BAM! everything changes and I was thrown for a loop I can honestly say I cried my eyes out for most of this book! I was devastated and felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest! M.J. was able to pull me into her book and I swear I was stuck crippled from heartbreak I couldn't stop reading. I read the whole thing in one sitting and when I finished I wanted to start it all over again just so I could have more. This is one of those books you just cant help but fall in love with. I dont want to really give anything away to those of you that did not get to read it yet so I wont really touch base on the actual story just please know. You NEED to read this book like ASAP! I just don't think I can continue this series. -There is absolutely no communication between these characters at all! It would solve all their problems.-Ryan is just as big of a moronic douchbag as Mark is! Does Ryan not think to mention his relationship with Aria to Layla or maybe even introduce them? Maybe give Layla a little bit of an explanation before parading Aria around, sitting her on his lap, having her stay with him??? He says he didn't realize that Layla didn't know who Aria was, but how the hell would she know who she is? Even if she did know, no woman would let their man treat another woman like that! The relationship between Mark and Layla was not ok with me in book 1 and the relationship between Ryan and Aria is not ok with me either!-Ryan needs Aria with him in two big moments of crisis, not Layla? Umm, ok.-Ryan tells Layla that Aria "is my home"!?!? Who says that about another woman?-Ryan doesn't even break devastating news to the woman he loves privately?-Poor Caleb! He's the bad guy in all of this, getting ALL the blame for Mark&Sophie's problems and then Ryan&Layla's.-None of these people speak in contractions? They just sound so robotic and unnatural, it's difficult to read.-Mark is in the hospital and Sophie is sitting around ogling Ryan and Kevin??? These people are all idiots!

The second book in the series and probably my favourite out of the three I've read so far. Ryan West is your ultimate playboy, who works hard and plays hard and protects his heart. Then he meets Layla, Sophie's sister whose story we heard in the first book. The attraction is instantaneous. They both decide that they will continue to be with one another and have a bit of fun. Neither thought they'd fall in love. What I enjoyed about this story was it wasn't just about them falling in love. Ryan had cancer when he was younger and it's back. Due to a miscommunication between the two Layla thinks she has been replaced by Ryan's previous bone marrow donor, but they soon sort things out. It's about supportive friends, and dealing with what life throws at you. Layla is horrid to Ari, Ryan's donor, and in the start I understand as Layla feels betrayed but Ari has been nothing but supportive of Ryan. Then you start to get this feeling that something isn't right with Ari. Lots of drama and emotions weave through this story leaving me really looking forward to the next one. I liked how you are introduced to Jena, who is the main female character in the next book and their stories start to intertwine.

Stars: 3Overall: Ryan is a personally trainer to the stars and a man-whore until he meets Layla. There is something instantly about her that attracts him and makes him want something different in his life. They start things a little fast and after Caleb sticking his nose problems that he shouldn't, it makes a big accident happen. Right when you think that everything is going to work itself out for our couple, Ryan gets his sickness back and that just breaks them apart in more ways than one, but in the end everything works out for the best. I don't want to give to much away because there is a lot of emotions that I can't quite explain, you just have to read it to find out. Pros: Ryan is definitely one hot, sexy piece of ass. I liked the way that Layla and Ryan reacted to each other sometimes and the sex was pretty pornographic. Cons: Again like the first story, there was not enough of a back story for me to really get into it. I wanted more than what the book gave. Plus having everyone get hurt and sick at the same time was a really big downer. I just wanted more for this series than what was written.Characters: Ryan & LaylaPage Turner: Yes & NOSeries Cont: YesRecommend: Yes

You meet Ryan West in the first installment of this series Taming the Bachelor who is one of Mark Morietti's close firends. Ryan's story was a little different than Mark's meaning that Ryan as a child suffered from a form of leukemia that he had to deal with at a young age.In Taming the Bachelor Ryan meets Sophie's sister Layla who is alot different the her big sister. Layla is not shy, fun loving, tatooed, and loves hot sex! So Layla and Ryan hook up as a onetime thing only to have it turn out being alot more then one time. Every time they see each other they can't keep their hands off each other.Ryan who is another confirmed bachelor starts out with Layla as a friends with benefits kinda thing which doesn't last too long. The more that Layla and Ryan get together the more and more each of them realize that they have deep feelings for each other. After Ryan and Layla accept that they care for each other Ryan goes into a relapse with his diease. This is the part of the book that brought me to tears because it was just so sweet the love that the two of them have for each other and regardless of what happens they will be together till the end fighting for Ryan.Great story.

When Ryan West was introduced in Taming the Bachelor, he was the epitome of Playboy. If it was a female, available, and willing... he was under them (or over them) in a heartbeat. However, Ryan is the ultimate "Playboy" for a reason. He believes that living life to the fullest, especially when you've been given a second chance to live. Then he meets Layla. Can Layla be the one to tame his wicked ways? How does Layla go about taming the one who swore that marriage was not meant for him. When you take the journey with Ryan, there is no doubt you will cry. There was no way to avoid the tears this playboy makes you shed. Because even though he doesn't want to fall, he just can't help but accept his feelings for the beautiful Layla. Unfortunately, this book still had some obvious typos. You overlook them because the story itself pulls you in. The characters still have their moments of "immaturity", but I guess being friends for twenty years will bring out some of this qualities. In overall, this a must read. M.J. you made me ugly cry!

This is book 2 in the Moretti Novels I don't know where to begin. This book tore me apart. I didnt like Layla AT ALL in book 1 and the very beginning of book 2 ...but i can honestly say, she redeemed herself 1000% and I grew to love her very much.Ryan, damn.... I loved him from the start, but the man broke me .... I so very rarely cry, but Ryan had me sobbing my heart out. I had been crushing on Mark big time, and then along came Ryan and stole my heart. There is one sentence, one scene that sticks with me. I think about it over and over. Unfortunately I cant say what it is because it would be a huge spoiler so you will have to read it and find out yourself !!This book is very well written and the subject matter was crushing to me at times but handled so very well. The emotion gripped me and never let me go. and just like book 1, I could not put this book down. I haven't gotten one thing done around the house in 2 books ....I would absolutely recommend this book and this series .... now i am on to Caleb. Be gentle with me !!

Where do I begin.... Ryan West.... WOW! <3 Okay so when I read book one....Taming the Bachelor - I thought yeh.... this is okay good... I mean who wouldn't want a Mark Moretti.... but then I started this one and fell in LOVE with Ryan. The story of he and Layla is so good. You know a one night - no string attached - kind of thing... yeh... that doesn't really work in this situation. Sneaking around behind all their friends backs.... finally just saying F' it and telling everyone they are together. Their friends laughing because Ryan was the Playboy and no one was ever going to tie him down ;) HEA....well.....let's just say this... some personal tragedy strikes and the author had me crying - and bawling- snot running out of my nose - crying some more - angry as hell that this can't be happening............... and you will have to One Click this to find out just what I am talking about ;) Great Job M.J.Carnal.... you keep getting better and better..... 5 stars! <3
