This short story was absolutely fantastic and downright creepy. I love hearing about ghosts and spirits and Hargrave nailed the suspense in only a few pages. Yes, even though this is a short story and a quick read, you experience so much.Raine is introduced to a past that goes back long ago. Although the past wasn't pretty and there was some horrific things that happened, it was interesting none the less. But answers will fall into place for Raine as the past is laid out before. She was brought to this house for a reason and understanding those reasons will be scary at first until Raine is able to fully embrace it. And maybe, she will be able to save her failing marriage in the meantime.I am a sucker for short stories, especially if they are wrote well. And Hargrave writes really well. I love her ability to give detail without it being too much. Yes, you know the ones. Those books with description/detail overload? But not this read. Perfect balance of story and detail.I definitely recommend this short read to any and all who love a good ghost story and need a book to read between those longer ones. Give yourself some time to sit back and relax as you partake in the goodness Hargrave will dish out. You will walk away from this one happy with the turn of events. I promise.

When I first started reading Haunted Raine, I really didn’t think I would enjoy it. Boy was I wrong. At first I thought it was going to be a story about a couple who’d lost each other after thirty years of marriage, as is very possible with many couples. You want to hurt for Raine and what she’s feeling, but quickly find out that she is a very smart and strong person. As the story progresses we learn that Raine and Rick end up buying a house to fix-up and then sell, but this house has secrets. Secrets that help bring Rick and Raine back to themselves. It was an experience that changed so much for Raine. There is also a supernatural aspect to the story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting more.Due to it being such a short story, I can’t say more without giving it all away, but if you do get a chance to get it and read it I promise you won’t regret it.

When I first saw the separate cover for this story, I knew it was going to be brilliant. I'm a sucker for spiritual stories, ghosts, etc, and Haunted Raine did NOT disappoint. From the second the author describes the home which the main characters buy to fix up and sell, you just know there must be a ghost lurking around the next corner somewhere. R.E. Hargrave has a way with words that I just love about her stories. She paints a picture in your head to allow you to see exactly what she did when writing this down. Though just a short read, I enjoyed this story a lot and will look forward to reading it over again from the start. There were several parts towards the end where I was leaning closer to my computer while reading it, with anticipation of finding out the back story to exactly what happened long ago in that house.

Yes, I'm a sucker for a cover, and this one just pulled me in the moment I saw it! What I am pleased about most though, is that the story is equally as brilliant (there are so many great covers out there, and the paper the stories were printed on should have just been loo paper). One of my favourite books is Turn Of The Screw by Henry James, so I adore ghost stories and things like this, and althout Haunted Raine is a different subject matter to the classic I read at 14, this is one which I enjoyed, and will turn to again and again.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book. It had every aspect that I enjoy in a tale full of twist and good ole southern beliefs. In this delightful short story we meet an older couple who as so many at that age have hit a bump in the road and are desperate to reconnect. So what do they do, they invest in property and begin to work as a team to rebuild not only there investment, but their relationship. But oh do they find themselves with more than what they bargained – have I mentioned this was a ghost story? Yes, sir, we have a ghost with a past that connects with more than the house. I sat on the edge of my seat throughout this story as the reason this spirit still made this home its resting ground was made public and how this couple was connected to the past. It’s a fun summer read that will leave you begging the author to write more…love this story as much as all R. E. Hargrave’s other work. She is an amazing storyteller and I am excited to see what else comes out of her brilliant head.

I had the pleasure of reading this story in its development from the very beginning and from the first line, I knew that R.E. Hargrave would bring yet another amazing story to her readers.Never one to shy away from writing something new, R.E. Hargrave has given something completely different to her readers this time and you can tell that the subject has been well researched and thought out. As with all of her stories, I'm left with a satisfied feeling of my connection to the characters and how the story ended, but at the same time screaming out for more because I wasn't ready for it to be over.I can't wait for her next book and the new path she will take us all on.

This was certainly not what I expected. I absolutely loved it. Lorraine realises she needs to get life back on track, especially her marriage. She coaxes her husband into buying a derelict cottage by the sea. They get more than they bargained for when they find out the house is haunted. A quick read but a really great read. I totally loved it.

Well I guess I should start off by saying that I don't normally read "spooky or haunted" stories... but because the author is amazing I took a chance and picked up the book. First of all let me just say...OMG. The cover. O_O - PERFECTION*coughs*OMG, OMG, OMG!!!! I LOVED this book!!! There are so many things that came together perfectly to make this such an awesome, addicting story. This story throws you into a setting that is bone-chillingly creepy and intriguing at the same time, and I found myself immediately drawn to it. And where the characters could have fallen short of my expectations due to the exciting plot, they actually left me pleasantly surprised. The main characters as well as the secondaries were so well-written that I ended up not being able to put the book down because I couldn't wait to see what happened to them next. I laughed, I cried, and I melted all because these characters were so enjoyable! All in all, I had a lot of fun with this book. It's a delightfully fun and entertaining read fit for fans who are looking for a more lighter paranormal/supernatural escape but still crave some pondering mystery, a bubbling romance, sensational writing and a new cast of colorful and witty characters that will capture your heart from minute one. I'm so excited to have a new book to love from this amazingly talented author and I can't wait to see where Rachel takes us next!

This was such a great little story. It was packed with a wide variety of interests. The first that I enjoyed was the not so typical love story. This was about a couple that had been married for over 30 years and were facing distance, a disconnection. Raine really felt it more and wanted to find a way to connect with her husband again since the kids were all out of the house and it was more noticeable. Lorraine decided they would buy a house to flip and spend the time working on it so they could possibly reconnect. But some things are not as simple as one will imagine. The reconnecting ... went well; however, the flip, not so much. There were other elements involved that led to Raine finding out some wonderful information about herself. I would have loved for this to have been longer, only because I enjoyed it so much, but it wasn't necessary. The whole story was skillfully told in so few words and it was a really good one. I love historicals and this, although not a historical book, had flashes of things that happened a very long time ago. You'll have to read this to put it all together and I know you all will enjoy it. This is another great story written by R.E. Hargrave. I'd recommend this to everyone.

The review has been carried part as an Author Feature Week over on Lily Loves Indie - as a teaser, here's a snippet of the review....If I'm honest, this review is nothing more than pure praise for Hargrave, and those of you who know me will know it is very rare for me not to have a moan about something (constructively of course!) but even if I spent days trying to niggle with this book I couldn't have found anything. As a result, I'm going to highlight a few of the key areas of this book that I felt were truly outstanding..The first thing I really need to mention is the concept. A couple buy an old house, turns out it's haunted and then battle the spirits to reclaim what's theirs - when put very simply like that, you could almost imagine the cliches popping from all sides, but there are literally none in this book! It is entirely unique and gripping from the start Hargrave has weaved her own magic here, and breathed a very much needed breath of fresh air into this genre. It feels familiar in a way, but also fresh and very new. An intoxicating mix which is excellently written throughout. To read the rest of the review make sure you visit Lily Loves Indie on 15th October!

First off thank you for the acknowledgements it totally rocked my socks !Rick has a nature that reminds me a little of my own. Lorraine is comical and me in a fit of laughter when she described her boobs.."girls swung lower" most of us could relate as gravity takes over with age LOL ! Even her hidden Malbros made me laugh again being able to identify being a closet smoker .As a whole Rick and  Lorraine are easy to identify with. fall in love, get married ,have kids and as a mum your entire life revolves around your family especially the kids and now that they're spreading their wings your nest is empty.  Lorraine realises she needs to get out of her funk and decides the best way is to purchase a real fix me upper but she gets much more than she bargained for. ...a ghostly visitor. I appreciate and love how the townsfolk pull together and help them after a rather unfortunate incident. Just remember not all and everyone is as they seem I mean just take Faye for instance.Haunted Raine was about reconciliation , finding peace and rekindling a flame.A ★★★★ read that I enjoyed.

Thanks to Ren Rom Publishing for the ARC copy of the anthology. It is an honor to have read it before it releases!! Thanks to R.E. Hargrave for the book information that is part of this blog post. What a great story! Although this is a short story, this story packs a punch! I am scared to write this review because I may give away something. I am going to try my best not to give anything away, so this will be a short review. (Sorry!) There were a couple parts that were difficult to read but despite the difficult topics that were involved, it was an important part of the story. I love that the couple of this story found a way to reconnect. I love that the couple was an older couple and not the typical 20 or 30 something couple that I am used to reading. I love that this story had a great level of suspense, but not drawn out. When I was 7 pages away from finishing, I had a theory and no one that had read the story was around. I wanted to express my theory before I finished so that I could legitimately say I was right! As it turns out, I was right!

Like every book written by RE Hargrave Haunted Raine does NOT disappoint. How can she evoke such emotion in such a short book?Lorraine's life has passed her by. Her kids are grown and like so many marriages the spousal relationship falls behind that of mother/father relationship and when the kids are gone the parents have to learn to reconnect as adults, lovers, friends. So, a big leap of faith and lots of blood, sweat and tears find Rich and Raine refurbing an old house. We know what happens in old houses right? yep, freaky things...I LOVE novellas because they are quick can feel great reading "a whole book" in a day LOLand this is one you should really pick up. Lots of stuff going on, kind of a little something for everyone. Romantic suspense with a supernatural twist!4.5 Stars!!!

I was gifted this book for an honest review. A unique story that by chance, bridges together a huge gap from the past. This short story had me engrossed from the beginning! It's the PERFECT quick read!!Feeling the loss of unity in her marriage to Rick, Lorraine takes them on an adventure. Buying a fixer upper property, she hopes restoring it will bring their relationship back. The stories that lay in the old walls of the home are a bit more than anyone could have imagined!! See for yourself how it all plays out in Haunted Raine!!!Missy - reviewer for Mommy's Naughty Playground

Nothing like being surprised by an author! This little was full of the surprises. Loved the story line. And yes, full of the feels as well. The super natural feel and background was very nicely done and filled in all the little quirks going on in the story. Really liked the author's ability to bring me in to the world she created. And I absolutely loved Raine and Richard. A couple together a long time, content, but a bit distanced. Very realistic. Their ability to reconnect and how they go about it, just perfect!Really nice flow and again, would really like more of these two.

Oh wow, this is the first book I have read by this author and it was fantastic. Very quick. You would think with a story this fast it wouldn’t develop into a great book, but this one did. I loved the suspense to it. I loved Rich and Raine. I think they are adorable, and when they built that chemistry back up it was amazing. I thought this book was well written. If you are looking for a short book that will have you on the edge of your seat, this book is for you! Great Job! Overall I give this book 4 ½ Stars!!!

I loved reading Haunted Raine by R.E. Hargrave. This was a great story about Lorraine Morrissey and her husband Richard. They get a crazy idea to buy a house to renovate for the summer as a way to save their marriage. The things that happen to them change their lives forever. I loved reading this story. I definitely recommend it to everyone.

4-1/2 starsThis has a little bit of everything for everyone, love, history, southern charm, and a ghost. How the author connects everything together makes for an enjoyable read. With summer coming, this will make a great little read to add to your list or even take on vacation, when you need a little breather from all the family fun.
